Digger & 9 Other Films That Split the Internet and Critics

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger has left audiences and critics completely split – so much so that it’s become part of the film’s marketing.

Still sitting on the fence for now, Close-Up Culture pick out 9 other films that provoked a similar reaction.

1. Digger

The film that currently has everyone asking: “Did we just watch the same movie?”

2. Mother!

A brilliant biblical allegory disguised as psychological horror – or two hours of miserable torture. You decide.

3. Beau Is Afraid

Ari Aster turns anxiety into a three-hour nightmare that some call genius and others found painfully confusing.

A person walking down a brick path surrounded by colorful animated houses and stylized trees in a scenic landscape.

4. Megalopolis

Francis Ford Coppola spent decades dreaming this one up. Whether that was a good idea remains fiercely debatable.

5. Men

It starts as folk horror and ends somewhere considerably stranger – with that ending almost guaranteed to divide you.

6. The Neon Demon

Beautiful, nasty and almost aggressively stylish, Nicolas Winding Refn’s fashion nightmare is pure Marmite.

7. Under the Silver Lake

A conspiracy thriller, a coded puzzle or three hours of beautiful nonsense? The internet still hasn’t decided.

8. Spring Breakers

Is it a brilliant satire of American excess or just four girls behaving badly in bikinis? I think the former but everyone else tells me otherwise!

A group of five young adults posing in front of a brightly lit store with neon signs, wearing colorful swimwear. Two women are holding onto each other, while a man in sunglasses stands confidently in the center, surrounded by three women.

9. Climax

Gaspar Noé’s idea of a good time is 90 minutes of dancing, drugs and escalating psychological hell. Is it yours?

10. Saltburn

One of the most talked-about films of the decade – and one of the easiest to have a hot take on.
