Edinburgh Fringe: Jake Roche Talks Neporrhoids!

You’ll know Jake Roche as the lead vocalist of Rixton, who charted at number 1 with Me and My Broken Heart , and as the son of Shane Richie and Coleen Nolan . In this autobiographical sort-of-musical, Neporrhoids!, Jake looks at his meteoric rise to fame in a boyband and his existential quest for relevance, questioning if he is merely a ‘one-hit wonder’ nepo baby or more .

We spoke to Jake to find out more about his show…

Hi! First things first, how are you?

Had a McDonalds at 1am last night on the drive over to a friends house. Feeling it a bit. Gut fauna all over the gaff. You?

In your own words, can you describe for us what your show is about?

Sure. It’s about my experience with being a pop star in my 20’s with haemorrhoids as well as the tough conversations I’ve had to have with my famous Dad.

And if you were to condense that into three words, what would they be?

Fame. Dad. Haemorrhoids.

What has preparation for the Fringe looked like for you so far?

Work in progress shows and lots and lots of rewriting.

What do you want audiences to take away from seeing your show?

An understanding on why Nepo babies have it rough.

How did you come up with the concept of your performance?

It was done by doing it in front of an audience. It might be the only way I think. For me anyway. It very much leans into what it is which is a guy trying to relive his ‘glory’ years. All a bit tragic.

Edinburgh Fringe is certainly an incredibly busy event, what are you most looking forward to doing whilst there?

Seeing other shows for sure. Getting stuck in. Meeting cool people. Walking around.

Wh ere can people catch your show this summer?

I’ll be at Pleasance, Beside. 15:35 everyday.

And where can people follow your work?

Catch me on instagram I guess. @jakeroche

Finally, what would be your dream venue or theatre to perform at?

Anywhere on broadway. I love New York. I love broadway. I love life.
