Robby Robinson’s Blueprint – Film Review

Legendary Bodybuilder Robby Robinson Re-Emerges in Documentary During His Golden Age
by Dr. Laura Wilhelm, LauraWil Intercultural

The latest in the series of Generation Iron bodybuilder documentaries is Vlad Yudin’s film ROBBY ROBINSON’S BLUEPRINT.  Robinson was once known as The Black Prince and Mr. Lifestyle with dozens of magazine covers and top bodybuilding titles.  He is brought out of retirement by a 55-year-old entrepreneur and sports enthusiast named Tim Taylor to train in Los Angeles together for 16 long weeks–twice a day.

The respectful and lively rapport between Robby and Tim sets this film apart from others in the genre.  Bodybuilding tends to be a solo enterprise with silent practitioners.  Tim and Robby try to break this mold.

“I looked at his physique like you would envision a superhero,” Tim says of Robby.  Yet later conversations reveal said superhero’s childhood in the Deep South to have been marred by poverty, abuse, neglect, parental incarceration, and serious health issues such as sickle cell anemia.

Undaunted, Robby found friends and role models such as Jack LaLanne to guide him to a lengthy string of successes including Mr. World and Mr. Universe titles before retiring in 2001 at 55.  His training work with Tim inspired the two men to distill Robby’s hard-won knowledge into a six-part system that includes water, nutrition, training, sleep, supplementation, and mind-muscle connection.  According to them, this simple regimen could propel anyone as far as they wanted to go.

The film’s beautiful music and visuals enhance Tim and Robby’s strong and beautiful spirits.  Their inspiring partnership has produced a valuable blueprint for unparalleled mind/body success.

ROBBY ROBINSON’S BLUEPRINT is set to stream on top platforms like Apple Plus, Amazon Prime, and Google Play on June 28th.  It comes highly recommended.
