Edinburgh Fringe: Edith Alibec Talks Glitch

Drenched in edgy dark humour, Glitch sheds light on the intricate facets of the mother-daughter relationship amidst the challenges of living abroad, sporadic reunions, shattered dreams from youth, and the void that forms when there have been so many things left unsaid.

Writer and performer Edith Alibec joins us on Close-Up Culture to tell us more about Glitch…

Hi! First things first, how are you?

Excited and panicked, we are in the final stretch of finalising the show.

In your own words, can you describe for us what your show is about?

Death. Kidding. Not really. It is actually about death, dealing with death with. But that’s t he deeper theme, on the surface it is actually about the high school reunion, failing at life etc.

And if you were to condense that into three words, what would they be?

Death. Birth. Restart.

What has preparation for the Fringe looked like for you so far?

Writing, rewriting, thinking it’s good, then thinking it’s shit again, then rewriting etc etc etc

What do you want audiences to take away from seeing your show?

To call their mother afterwards and tell her they love her.

How did you come up with the concept of your performance?

That stage in life where you feel like things are not how they are supposed to be. How society expects it to be.

Edinburgh Fringe is certainly an incredibly busy event, what are you most looking forward to doing whilst there?

Last year was my first Fringe and I realised that people are very caught up with their schedules, me including, so apart from doing the show, I wanna see a lot of shows and go once on the Arthur’s seat which I haven’t done yet.

Where can people catch your show this summer?

Assembly George Square, The Crate, 13:!5, 31 July – 26 Aug.

And where can people follow your work?

Instagram mostly.

Finally, what would be your dream venue or theatre to perform at?

Volksbuehne Berlin which I am actually doing it in November.
