Actress Nikki Duval talks to Close-Up Culture about the final season of Workin’ Moms, which is set to stream on Netflix this April 26th.
Nikki plays Rosie Philips, Kate Foster’s (Catherine Reitman)quirky left-hand woman, who first started working with Kate at the old public relations firm together, then joining her when she decided to branch out on her own and start her own company.
What were your feelings heading into the final season of Workin’ Moms?
It was an emotional moment! I think by year seven, I was ready to wrap up my Rosie journey. It was a great run that I was super proud of! But it was also the role that basically launched my career. I was so new to the industry when I booked Rosie. It is an incredible thing to experience so much growth as an artist and being able to track that growth playing the same character year after year. It was very sentimental filming the last season reminiscing the past decade of my life.
What can we expect from Rosie in this final season?
Well now that Rosie has become partner, we definitely get to explore a more assertive side of her. She finally has agency at the firm, rather than being Kate’s lackey. She has more confidence and opinions in the direction she wants to take the firm. But not to worry, she’s still trying desperately to impress Kate along the way! Who would Rosie be without the desperation??!
What will be your favourite memory from playing Rosie?
Oh boy, there are so many favourites! The one scene that will always be my top, though, is when Richard fires me from the old firm, Gaze, for sleeping with Carl on his desk! I think that was back in season 2! It was so much fun filming that scene. Emotionally charged comedy is my niche. Nothing makes me more fulfilled than balling my eyes out while making people laugh.
How do you reflect on your time working on the show and with all the cast and crew?
There are so many fond memories that I will cherish forever. I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing people over the years. The crew is always such a pleasure! This cast is incredible. I have made lifelong friends on this show. I will especially miss my KFPR family. It makes me so sad that we will most likely never be on the same set again. I will miss Catherine for being a complete goof and making us laugh between takes. I will miss Peter for never fully knowing his lines but always saying “this is the one” before every take. And I will miss hanging out in Kevin’s trailer during lunch and never letting him nap because he’s my work husband and we belong together always! I love them so much!
What do you get up to away from acting?
Between acting gigs, I spend a lot of my time looking at my puppy, taking pictures of my puppy, going for walks with my puppy, cuddling my puppy. I got her right after I filmed the last season of Workin’ Moms and she is truly a mini me, a fellow ginger, so of course I named her Rosie! And trust me she lives up to the name because she is a little quirky weirdo full of anxiety. And she’s cute to boot 😉
What are your hopes and ambitions for the future?
My hope is that I get to sustain a career in this industry for the rest of my life. I am so grateful for what Workin’ Moms has given me. It has shaped me into the actor that I am today. And I am so proud of the artist I have become. I am always reaching for the next thing and pushing myself to grow as an actor. My ambition is to always keep growing. Doing things that scare me, really going for it and failing and then trying again, playing roles that I have never done before and really pushing the barriers within myself.
