Close-Up: An Interview With Cameron Inman

Actress Cameron Inman joins us on Close-Up Culture to chat about her role in AMC’s Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.

The series tells the story of a young neurosurgeon, ‘Rowan,’ who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches and must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Hi Cameron, welcome to Close-Up Culture. Can you tell us about your background and how you discovered your love of acting?

Hey! Thank you so much for having me!

I discovered my love of acting in 5th grade. My music teacher Mrs. West put on a big Christmas musical with the 5th graders every year. She held auditions and everything. I auditioned for the lead role of Holli Day and got it. After our performance, I ran to my mom and told her I wanted to keep acting. She signed me up for TV/Film classes at DTV STUDIOS and the rest was history. I have always been passionate about TV/Film and that is what I focus on the most.

You play the younger version of Annabeth Gish’s character ‘Deidre” in Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. How did you approach this project and this character?

As soon as I found out I booked the role I bought The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. The first season is based on the first book and I wanted to make sure I fully grasped my character. I am a huge reader so I was excited to be introduced to a new novel. I really studied how Anne Rice described Dierdre because I wanted to do her justice.

I understand you filmed your first sex scene on the show. How did you find that experience?

I feel like I had the best first experience anyone could have asked for. My scene partner (Sam Evans) was so respectful and was always asking if I was ok despite it being his first time filming a sex scene as well. There was an intimacy coordinator on set and that just adds to the feeling of being cared for and safe. I was also very close to one of the ADs (Biscuit Reynolds) and she made sure I always felt safe and in control.

Similar to AEW’s Britt Baker, when you’re not performing you are an on-call dental hygienist. How do you find the balance between acting and your other pursuits?

Britt Baker is a badass boss babe so I am honored to be compared to her! I have always had the motto “You can do both”. Acting has always been my number one passion. I also wanted to have a family in the future and decided to pursue a plan B just in case. I decided on dental hygiene because it allows me to be flexible with my schedule. Dental Hygiene is 8-5 M-F and acting is 24/7 for me. It never feels like work when you truly love what you are doing.

If you could have any person – past or present – in your hygienist chair, who would it be and why?

I would have my PawPaw in my chair. He passed away in February of last year and I miss him terribly. He always wanted to see my success in acting and he even called me his little Ava Gardner. He passed before I found out I booked the role so I would love to have him in my chair to tell him all about my time on set and show him pictures and show him the episode. He was and always will be one of my favorite people.

What type of roles would you love to take on in the coming years?

I would love to do any sort of period piece! I am so fascinated by history and I would love to feel as though I am traveling back in time to be a part of a certain era. I think my top two would be the medieval era and the Regency era.

What are your plans and ambitions for the future?

My plan is to act full-time. I want to continue doing what I love and I am hoping that this is just the start of many great things to come.

  1. I am anxious to see your work. I was a good friend of your Grandma’s so I also know your Mom. Not sure if you are Tricia’s or Tracy’s daughter.
I wish you all the luck in your future acting career.
    Sooo excited for you!

  2. I knew your family in Alamogordo! Your grandpa was the swim team coach and your mom, her sister and your uncle Tim were on the team with my two kids! We sure had some great times together! Congratulations on your role! Will be watching it!
