Close-Up: An Interview With Juliette R.

Fitness guru Juliette R. joins us on Close-Up Culture to talk about her fitness journey, staying motivated, overcoming hardships, and much more.

You started working out at 14 years old. What encouraged you to start at a young age?

Yes, I actually started to do home workouts at the age of 13 because I always felt very skinny and I wanted to build muscles. Very quickly I saw the impact it had on my mood, I became more balanced and felt stronger which also made me feel confident.

As you mention, there are obviously a lot of advantages to working out and staying in shape. What has working out and fitness brought to your life?

It completely changed me not only physically but also mentally. It has a huge impact on the mood, I feel more grounded and balanced in my day to day life. And because you get out of your comfort zone when you work out it’s also easier to push yourself in other aspects of life. I feel more connected with my body and mind.

What does your routine look like at the moment?

I do weightlifting about 4 times a week and I now added kickboxing and Yoga to my weekly workout Routine.

We’re still early in 2022 and many people will be trying to stay on task with their New Year fitness goals. What would your advice be to people who are struggling to stay motivated?

Always keep your goal in mind. Why do you workout? You need a why, because otherwise you just stop staying motivated. I also recommend taking pictures regularly to see the progress you’re making. Another very important thing to keep in mind is that motivation won’t always be there. I’m not motivated 24/7 either. But the difference is to stay disciplined and still push yourself to go even when you don’t feel like it. Just do it and the feeling after a workout is always worth it.

What has been your biggest hurdle in life and how have you overcome it?

I’ve been through a very tough year least year. I had a pretty hard breakup and was isolated for 7 months because of lockdown. So basically 7 months alone in my little apartment with a lot of emotional pain and I also had some health problems. But I learned a lot from it and it was a very intense time that I had just with myself and it was very important to go through that.

How do you like to relax and unwind away from the gym?

When I feel stressed I like to meditate and do Yoga. Meditation has been a big part of my life for the past year and it helped me with a lot of things. Staying connected with the breath can teach us so many things and help us with stress and anxiety. I like to meditate every day for at least 10 minutes.

Can you tell us about your favourite travel experience?

My favourite travel experience was actually last month when I traveled to Mexico, Tulum. I absolutely fell in love with Tulum, the people, the weather, the vibe, the food. I love everything about it and I will definitely go back very soon!

What would be your dream travel experience?

Tulum really was my dream travel experience and it was just the way I imagined it to be. But I also really want to visit Costa Rica!

Who is your biggest role model?

My biggest role model has always been my mom. I am so proud of her, she is such an inspiration for me.

What are your goals and ambitions for the future?

My goal is to create a life where I don’t wait for the weekends. Living as much in the present moment as I can.

I really want to help and inspire people to heal and grow mentally and physically and to live a healthy lifestyle in general. My biggest goal in life is to have my own little family one day.
