Films are designed to tell a story, which is why so many people regularly watch movies. However, as well as being a fantastic way to pass the time, films have also been integral in promoting various products over the years. Mobile phones are often seen in movies, but did you know that sales often rise based on particular devices being seen? Well, if you didn’t know, we have some handsets this has applied to in the past.
Casino Royale
Casino Royale is not only one of the best James Bond films of all time, but it’s also one of the top movies ever made in terms of its popularity. In Casino Royale, Daniel Craig stars as 007, and in typical Bond fashion, he’s all about gadgets and technology. Bond’s mobile of choice in the movie is the Sony Ericsson K800i. Sales increased by over £3 million on the back of the film, and there was an increase in the number of people becoming interested in a wide variety of casino games online too.
The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada, as the name of the movie suggests, is all about fashion and looking good. So, was there really a better film around at the time to promote what happened to be the most stylish mobile phone on the market? We think not. In The Devil Wears Prada, the Motorola Razr came to the fore, and sales increased by over 40%, which amounted to a figure exceeding £1.5 million. However, what also helped is that seeing the Razr in the movie was also enough for A-list celebrities to get involved too, and many were seen out and about making calls using the device.
Wall Street
Sometimes, a movie’s best plan of attack is to stick to the facts and represent the truth to viewers. And Wall Street is certainly a film that ticks this particular box with aplomb. While Wall Street is an excellent film in its own right, it also happens to be one of the first to bring mobile phones into play, specifically Motorola’s DynaTAC 8000x. What the movie did fantastically is to show how mobile phones were used then and how they were useful in terms of doing business. The year after the film was released, millions of DynaTAC 8000x’s were sold, with Motorola’s sales at a record high.
The Matrix
The Matrix is one of those movies that everyone has seen, and many believe it to be one of the best films of all time. And it probably is. Talking of being the best of all time, when the Matrix was screening, Nokia were the market leader in mobile phone manufacturing, as seen by the Nokia 8110 featured in the movie. And, believe it or not, after people saw a young Keanu Reeves use the device in The Matrix, it generated billions of pounds worth of sales across the next twelve months. Sales at Nokia rose by a stunning £9.5 billion.
