Close-Up: An Interview With Alessandra Paolinetti

Content creator Alessandra Paolinetti joins us on Close-Up Culture to chat about her background, being consistent, her love of nature, and much more.

Hello Alessandra, welcome to Close-Up Culture. First off, can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to become a content creator?

Hi! I want to start by saying thank you so much for having me.

I started off as a content creator nearly 10 years ago now, right around the time that I finished middle school after being heavily involved in the YouTube community on the viewer side for about a year! Throughout middle school, YouTube – more specifically YouTuber fandoms – were my main source of happiness and I was really inspired by a lot of the concert creators that I watched at the time. I saw what a positive impact they had not only on me personally, but also on the other people within these fandoms I was in.

This was around 2012, though, when the Internet still had a bit of a stigma for not being a “safe place” to really share yourself online, so as a 12 or 13 year old girl my parents actually shut down the idea of me making YouTube videos when I asked them if I could! It wasn’t until one of my favorite Youtubers at the time, Chris Kendall, posted a YouTube video where he essentially encouraged anyone who wanted to start YouTube to just put themselves out there and do it that I decided: Oh well, I’m gonna make videos anyway and just not tell my parents hahaha. It was arguably the decision I’ve ever made.

How would you describe yourself and your approach to life?

I think the best word I would use to describe myself is optimistic! It’s also one of the things that I value most about myself. I feel very blessed to have not only a life that makes me happy, but also a positive outlook on life in general. Sharing that happiness with others and helping them feel that way too is my primary goal in doing social media.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I recently graduated college and moved to Los Angeles, so my typical day has changed a lot in the past year! To be honest I don’t feel like I have so much of a schedule anymore, so my day today varies pretty heavily. Now that I don’t necessarily have a consistent schedule – like I did when I was in school, where I would have class I had to physically be in in Tallahassee four to five days a week – I’ve been spending a lot of time traveling and/or going places here in Los Angeles and meeting new people, which has been amazing.

I will say though this has created a bit of difficulty because, especially nowadays when there are so many different social media platforms that you have to stay on top of posting consistently on, if you don’t have either a set schedule to ensure you’re getting all of your content done or a crazy amount of discipline to do the work without a schedule it can be really easy to not get everything done that you need to do.

You’ve got over 250k followers on TikTok. What do you enjoy about creating content on that platform?

I absolutely love TikTok. It’s one of my favorite platforms to create content on because of the way the content you make on there can be so authentic! Starting as a creator on YouTube I felt a sense of comfort when I initially joined TikTok because of the way it’s a video sharing platform in the same sense that YouTube is, but I personally feel that you can connect more with your audience on it. That’s the thing that I feel creates such a draw to the app for all of its users, creator or consumer: the way it breaks down the barrier between the two.

I see you’re also putting out lots of entertaining YouTube shorts and videos. What vision do you have for your content in the future?

First, thank you so much! I think my main goal right now is being more consistent with content. I fell out of my posting schedule a while ago and I have been trying to get back into it because YouTube was my initial passion and I feel a great way to connect with people! I’ve been filming a lot of vlogs recently, but need to get better at actually editing and uploading them hahaha!

What’s something you can tell us about yourself that not many people would expect?

I think the most people wouldn’t expect me to be a quiet as I am! I’m definitely an outgoing person and extrovert, but I can get really nervous around people pretty easily and feel like I’m a bother to them, which is something I’ve been trying to work on for the past year or so.

Tell us one of your most entertaining/memorable travel experiences.

To be honest, I have a lot of entertaining and memorable travel experiences but one of my favorites would have to be when my family and I went to Hawaii back in the summer of 2019 because it was such an amazing and beautiful trip! On the last day before our flight we woke up super early and went surfing off the North Shore coast of Oahu and it was genuinely one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had in my life. We were sitting out past the reef on our boards just looking at the coastline and mountains and, at the same time, a pod of dolphins swam by jumping out of the water, it was gorgeous.

Where do you feel most at peace?

I feel most at peace with my family or friends! I have two sisters that I love to spend time with and a lot of really amazing friends that I’m so grateful for and who make life so enjoyable. I also really enjoy being in nature and water! I spend a lot of time sitting outside or exploring new outdoor areas, I just love being around grass, trees, flowers, and all that it makes me really happy.

What are your plans and ambitions for the future?

My biggest ambition in life is to make as many people happy, even if just for a couple minutes, as possible and having a presence on social media is a great way to create a space for me to do that. Right now I want to continue working on social media and building up my platform, but I’m also working on a music project with some of my best friends which is really exciting! Definitely keep a lookout for that in the near future.

I also wanna say thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview! I had a great time and I am so appreciative for it!
