Cineworld Watford Opens Tomorrow

“I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

Cineworld Watford opens on Friday (14 December).

After attending the cinema’s opening gala earlier this week, I am delighted to report that the venue is incredible and everything a local movie-lover could hope for. To anyone who values spacious comfort and immersive big-screen experiences, I highly recommend picking up a ‘Cineworld Unlimited’ card and making the most of this terrific offer.

Starting on Friday (14 December), I’ll be spending far too much of my free time at Cineworld Watford. I hope to see you there!

Below is a press release with more details about the cinema’s opening.

Cineworld, one of the UK’s leading cinema chains, has today announced that Cineworld Watford will open on Friday 14th December 2018. The new cinema will feature nine state-of-the-art screens including IMAX with Laser, the newest ground-breaking IMAX® cinema technology, as well as ScreenX, the world’s first multi-projection 270-degree cinema technology, showing the latest Hollywood releases. The cinema will also offer a Baskin Robbins ice cream counter and a Starbucks. Cineworld Watford will launch with Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns, which will be screened, amongst other films, during the opening weekend.

Jay Zaman, Cineworld Watford General Manager, comments: “We can’t wait to open our doors to movie fans in Watford on Friday 14th December. With an exciting line-up of films, like Aquaman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Mary Poppins Returns, we look forward to sharing our love of film with the local community.”

The new Cineworld Watford IMAX cinema will feature IMAX® with Laser, IMAX’s ground-breaking new laser experience that delivers stunning images and powerful, immersive audio to transport audiences into blockbuster films like never before.

With IMAX with Laser, guests at Cineworld Watford can now experience:

Sharpness: Experience incredible detail in every image with a sharper, clearer and crisper picture that delivers a heightened level of realism on the biggest screens.

Brightness: Laser brings an increased level of brightness to fill IMAX screens with the most vivid and lifelike images in 2D and 3D.

Contrast: Dramatically greater contrast levels in each frame provides a level of depth that takes you out of your world and draws you into the movie.

Colour: The widest range of colours available to filmmakers so they can present more vibrant, deeper and richer colors in IMAX than ever before.

Sound: Whether it’s a pin drop or feeling the heart-palpating force of a volcano, with IMAX’s next-generation 12-channel sound system audiences will experience a new kind of powerful, immersive sound they can feel.

Giovanni Dolci, Managing Director of Europe and Africa at IMAX Corporation, “Cineworld shares our passion for delivering the best premium entertainment options. Through our new IMAX with Laser system, we look forward to delivering audiences at the new Cineworld Watford a bold, even more immersive IMAX blockbuster moviegoing experience.”

Originally launched in South Korea, Cineworld Watford will be the sixth cinema to install the new ScreenX technology in the UK. The innovative technology uses an array of projectors and with proprietary ScreenX software, blends multiple images into one seamless image extending from the central screen out. ScreenX walls are installed with a fabric to ensure brightness and colour closely match the content on the main screen and extend the length of the auditorium. Strategically placed audio systems and speakers ensure that sound does not compromise the immersive viewing experience.
