Close-up: 10 Questions With Model Qi Qi Lee

Malaysian model Qi Qi Lee answers 10 questions about her career exciting career and the future.

Q: What brought you to modelling?

A: I began modelling at 17 years old. My first public appearance was in Denso at the MotoGP. Soon after people got to know me and from there on my modelling career took off.

Q: Can you tell us about some of the challenges you have overcome to get where you are?

A: Rejection is a big one. There are times you when you go to model castings and don’t get selected. Those made me question whether I was good enough, so I started working on my self-confidence. I also worked to improve my makeup styling and personality.

I am always trying to make myself a better me.

Q: Do you feel pressure to stay in physical shape?

A: I don’t feel much pressure with this. I keep a balanced diet and discipline myself before any big shows because sometimes I am required to wear ‘sexy’ outfits. I normally do exercise or go to gym whenever time allows.

Q: Who are the people that have inspired you along this journey?

A: My family have supported me the most and my friends are always by my side.

Q: You have represented many big-name brands in your career. What has been the coolest or most memorable opportunity?

A: There are so many brands I have worked with and – from what I can recall – I have enjoyed working with all of them.

One of the coolest opportunities was working for a race team called ‘Grouppe M’ in Macau. I was 19 years old and it was my first experience going overseas to model. I still remember how exciting it was!

Q: I saw you were recently at the Ocean Music Festival and helped pick up trash as part of their #oceangogreen campaign. How was that experience?

A: The festival was an fun opportunity but it was a sad feeling to see the island filled with so much rubbish.

We did our best but regrettably we couldn’t fully clean it. I hope everyone does their own part by keeping the environment clean and healthy at all times.

Q: We see you travelling around Asia a lot on Instagram. Where is your favourite place in the world to visit?

A: Yes, I do love to travel and explore new places. I still love Malaysia the most. It is a place where you can find anything you could ever want or desire.

I remember once being in Korea and craving the taste of Nasi Lemak [a Malaysian rice dish]. Sadly for me, Korean cuisine is available in Malaysia but not the other way around.

Q: We would love you to come to London, but where in the world do you most want to visit that you haven’t been before?

A: I like London, it is a beautiful place and – if I were ever given the opportunity – I would definitely consider going there.

Besides London, I really looking forward to visiting Switzerland and the Maldives. Switzerland is my dream country and Maldives is full of sunshine and chill vibes.

Q: What are your plans for the future? Do you ever think about life after modelling?

A: I started my own agency recently. I understand I won’t be modelling forever, so I hope to help bring through more new and talented individuals. It would be a dream to see them hit great heights in future.

Q: Lastly, do you have any upcoming projects you can share with us?

A: I’m currently working on a project related to Sports, Eco and Culture. It will be a great pleasure for any interested parties to explore it further with us… Thank you!
